OUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
OUR SCHOOL
Since the very first day USDC opened it's doors, we have been dedicated to "CROSSTRAINING". Many schools have a misconception of what crosstraining really is. It isn't just teaching a lot of different styles. What separates us from other schools is that we teach our students a "system" that is taught as one style but comes from different styles. There are many martial artists who know multiple styles but don't know how to make these styles work together. Those students completing our program will have the strongest attibutes from the strongest styles in the world.
Although we do compete in the sportive aspect of our martial art, we fully understand the difference between sport and reality. Martial arts have been clouded by the commercialism of its own industry, where flying high kicks and one knock out punches have replaced TRUE self-defense.
At Ultimate Self-Defense Concepts (USDC), REALITY is #1. We try to instill the warrior's code in each of our students. People naturally fear injury and death. Eventually, everyone will die no matter what the cause; therefore we should not fear death. We focus on facing and controlling the fear factor. Most students will never fully accept this mentality, but by just having a small percentage of this mentality can go a long way in a student's life.
Our students are taught to always use their stand-up fighting
skills to defend themselves and only go into the grappling range if they are forced or there is no other option. USDC trains in all areas of self-defense; stand-up fighting, clinch fighting, groundfighting, weapons fighting, and disarming. We also teach our students to deal with attacks in real life situations. We perform, what we call, scenario training, simulating bar room attacks, car jacking, ATM hold-ups, multiple attackers, etc. Our grappling program also teaches students how to defend against biting, eye-gouging fingers/toe grabbing and even deal with an attacker that has a weapon while on the ground. No other program in the area teaches the self-defense aspect of ground fighting like USDC. We also deal heavily with the psychological factor and decision making process when confronted with different self-defense situations.
OUR GOAL
Our goal is to provide a facility in which individuals can train in a system that has constantly proven its effectiveness in real life situations. As well, this system brings individuals together so that we can do our part in the efforts of non-violence. Thus, we do our very best to avoid any and all such confrontational situations. There is no excuse for such violence. On the other hand, if there is no way to avoid this type of situation then one must defend one's self as if their life depends on it. This is truly a NO RULES FIGHT. Everything from your martial arts training to your environmental surroundings should be used to ensure your safety.
While training at USDC, you will increase your cardiovascular conditioning, awareness, muscle definition, self-confidence, self discipline, and also lose body fat while having the time of your life.
OUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Our teaching philosophy is that every student has their own reason for wanting to train, whether it be for fighting, sportive competition, physical fitness, or social interaction. Each student will be provided with a friendly environment in which to train, without any pressure. No one will be forced to compete or to fight. All students that train will learn how to defend themselves and get into the best shape of their life.
Our instructors lead by example, no matter how many student we have, the head instructor trains with all of the students in both sport and freestyle. If a student decides to compete, Win or Lose, students are encouraged to do their best. Even if you lose, you are still a winner as long as you learn from your mistakes. At USDC, there is no special treatment among any group. We are all ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY.
Most importantly, we never close our minds to ANYTHING. By always being open to add new techniques, our system constantly improves. Our school is dedicated to CROSSTRAINING. There are grappling schools that don't allow or teach leg-locks. These schools only practice submissions on half of the body. By doing this, they are closing their minds to a whole new dimension of grappling. If there is something that proves effective that we don't know, then we will go out and learn it, in an effort to provide our students with the best martial arts training available. |
